What we do for the museums
We are a group who enjoy the Ipswich museums and support them by raising funds from membership fees and special events. We then redistribute the money to varying museum projects. Sometimes we initiate the projects but mostly we respond to suggestions from the Museum Service. However a project starts, it must satisfy us that it will at least maintain but preferably enhance the museums and their collections.
Sometimes we may fund the complete purchase of an item but mostly we provide the initial funding for larger purchases. This initial local funding we provide enables the museum service to apply to other funding bodies that possess greater resources. Many of these funding bodies will not consider requests for money unless local funding has already been obtained. Our funds often provide this key into larger coffers.
Over the last few years, through our appeals and funding, we have provided £170,000 which the Museum Service has boosted by external funding into £1,190,000 of purchases.
