Royal Rendlesham
Venue - Christchurch Mansion
Cost - Friends £6, Guests £9 (includes a glass of wine)
We are delighted that Sir Michael Bunbury (landowner), Faye Minter (Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service) and Philip Wise (CIMS) will co-present this talk about the wonderful Anglo-Saxon discoveries at Rendlesham. Exciting artefacts have been found both by metal detecting and excavation which link Rendlesham with Sutton Hoo. In 2022 the site of the Royal Hall, alluded to in writings of the Venerable Bede in the 8th century but never before located, was exposed and its foundations excavated. Almost all of the archaeologically significant artefacts discovered have been acquired by Ipswich Museum and, once it reopens, highlights will be on permanent display there. A selection of important finds will be on display on the night.
